Trip Details
Our Exploits Canyon adventures begin at our renovated bus-office in the parking lot of the Salmonid Interpretation Centre - don't drive to Riverfront Chalets! On the map below, you're looking for the "Exploits Canyon Office".
Okay, so you passed the first challenge and you found the bus-office! Great, so come on in and get registered! Your guides will welcome you and get you geared up for your adventure with a PFD. Once you're geared up we'll board our Canyon Bus "Timmy" for a short drive down to Gorge Park, In Grand Falls-Windsor.
Just a quick note on accessibility. "Timmy" is not wheelchair accessible, however the rest of the Rattling Brook Falls adventure can be mostly accessible. On the river, we can accommodate guests with serious mobility issues (including paraplegia) providing they have good control of their upper body.
When we arrive in Gorge Park, your guides will help you load up the raft and off we go on our gentle rafting adventure! The Exploits River is very calm, peaceful and beautiful in this area. You will instantly escape the busyness of town and be transported into a peaceful wilderness. Your guide will be well informed about the history of the river as well as about the local wildlife, trees, and geology, so expect some great conversations along the way!
You can choose to paddle if you want, but most guests just relax and let the guide move the raft down the river with our giant rafting oars. Guests are free then to soak up the scenery and take pictures.
After 5km of perfect smooth river, there is a very short section of splashy waves that could get you wet in a canoe. Fortunately on our raft, we will have no issue at all with these tiny waves, so rest assured we will keep you dry if you want to stay dry!
After an amazing river adventure we arrive at the Great Rattling Brook Falls and get out to explore the falls and watch your guide prepare you a custom finger food charcuterie board. Enjoy this decadent lunch while lounging by Great Rattling Brook Falls and just take it all in. You are welcome to relax at the falls as long as you like - there is even a great swimming hole there if you are interested in taking a dip! When you're ready to head home, your guide will contact the shuttle which will pick you up at nearby Maxx Simms Camp after a short float from the falls to the docks.
After a roughly 30min shuttle, you'll be dropped off back at the Salmonid Interpretation Centre. Worth mentioning that the River's Edge Grill at the Salmonid Centre has a licensed patio and AMAZING food. You can enjoy a drink on the deck overlooking the Grand Falls as you reflect upon your amazing day on the river.
Make sure you visit the Salmonid Centre while you're there, we'll even pay for your admission!
